The theory is that if you write something every day, that exercise makes it easier to write. This matches my meager experience in college.
I'm re-reading E. R. Eddison's The Worm Ourbourous. His view of women reminds me a little of the Robert Graves veneration of the White Goddess. It's better than contempt, but it makes women less than human, not more.
