Maine Event: Day 25
Yay! It's Friday. It was a usual workday with my mornings free to do work and my afternoons in back-to-back meetings. We are working on releasing Amharic and Afaan Oromo versions of our Safe Abortion app for Ethiopia and also content updates in other languages.
Our kitchen here gets sunlight slanting in at an angle and our walk to the garden was glorious as usual. We had an hour or two of a downpour in the afternoon and it was cool and sunny when we ate falafel for dinner at Nura. It is a consistently good restaurant that is also affordable and has outdoor tables right on Monument Square downtown Portland.
I've been thinking about how many sunny vs gloomy days different places get. It's a funny thing to measure because a sunny day could mean some sun to full sun? Anyway here is what I found of partially sunny days and fully sunny days combined:
- Colorado 300 days
- San Francisco 260
- Portland Oregon 144
- Portland Maine 205
I put Portland Oregon in there because I know as a point of reference that it absolutely does not have enough sun for me. Too many gray days back to back for months in winter. I spent a couple years there in high school or rather Salem, Oregon but close enough.
It rains here really a lot in comparison to California yet there also it feels like there is a lot of sunny days. Here is a link that talks about this data in Portland, Maine.
Shorter rays of sun in the early morning in the kitchen (yes those are raindrops on the window from the night before)

Roses growing outside the Clark St. Community Garden

OKRA! It's pretty big but who knew okra would grow here.

Sunny day with spectacular clouds getting ready for our rain shower. That big brick building off in the distance is one of two hospitals we are near.

Damp and rainy. It really came down for an hour or so in the afternoon.

The view from the falafel restaurant - sun making the buildings a glorious gold tones.

Even though we are in a city most nights we can see many many stars and tonight a crescent moon over us and you wherever you are. (Yes I know why am I still using my phone)

Sending oodles of love, Tawnia
p.s. I forgot here is another link about stuff associated with the 1947 fires of Maine
