Maine Event: Day 31

I've been thinking about hurricanes and in the process learning about the Coriolis effect which controls a lot of things like water and airflow. And it makes hurricanes spin counterclockwise and typhoons (hurricanes south of the equator) spin clockwise. What I really didn't understand is that at the equator the Coriolis effect is basically zero and so there aren't hurricanes that form at the equator or cross it. Although there are exceptions they really are rare. The rainstorm yesterday was quite wild and today was cooler and sunny and had more of the feel of fall. I'm pretty sure it wasn't attached to any hurricane but it was very wet and intense. Also, how did we get all the way to Nicholas? There are so many hurricanes and tropical storms. As of today, there have been 14 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. The hurricane season on the Atlantic lasts until November 30th. I think they may run out of names.

This pub, Ruski's which was established in 1892 we pass on our way to the garden. It's a dive bar with cheap beer and um...well...pub food. I'm not exactly fond of pub food but if they have a dartboard...

This ferny thing at the bottom is asparagus in the garden. After the shoots get sent up that we eat it sends up these things and goes to seed. It is quite pretty.

Harbor View Park early in the morning the red bridge is both the pedestrian bridge as well as the draw bridge that opens up to the sky.

I thought with all these pretty flowers I should show you that this is really a city also. It is just remarkably green and full of flowers.
