Maine Event: Day 51

Another long day at work. Soon, very soon we will hatch a big update to one of our apps. Enough of that – it is after work now. It was a beautiful day with blue skies and a few little clouds. We had a high of 72° and a low of 49°.

I got up super early to go to the Farmer's Market and get a few things and was back before 8am. Then we dropped off the compost at the garden which is still as beautiful as can be. It is basically dark by the time we get out of work so the pictures are largely from early morning. 

I've been thinking about how COVID-19 has changed our time here and largely it probably is the same although we might have gone out to eat more. Basically, we only go to places where we can sit outside or get takeout. Mostly that means fancy restaurants are out of the question. Take a look at Fore Street restaurant and the picture section is very fancy. 

I also got my first advertisement to pre-order my Thanksgiving turkey. Apparently there are only 7 Thursdays until Thanksgiving. My oh my where did this year go.

In the pre-sunlight of the morning, I witnessed a giant truck hauling away the stairway in front which is a bit decrepit the picture makes it look like it is beautiful but it is twisted and the part looks like it is in the sun is water discoloration. They had just installed a new one and I guess the other one is an extra along for the ride. I've only seen stairways made in place so a pre-poured concrete stairway never occurred to me could happen.

I think I have a crush on Red oak trees. They are just so magnificent and they also are kind of a weed tree. They grow as spindly little things in the gutter in the country and come up in fields of blueberries where they are simply weeds. They live to be 400 years old. Here is a link with more information. One of the apple varieties that I keep hearing about is Macoun apples.

I also got three Honeycrisps which were 1$ a pound more than any of the other varieties.

Harbor view park is nearby the garden so we swing by it each morning after dropping off our compost.

This line of trees is comprised of all different kinds of oak trees. The closest one is a White swamp oak and the following two are young Red oaks.

Big flags are still out of all varieties. These two take the cake for being enormous. Next door to us is a red and yellow striped flag with a blue triangle and a single star. We looked it up and it is the flag of Catalan Independence.
