ME II: cool day to explore

We awoke to the same soft rain that was here all day yesterday. It stopped about 9am and the remainder of the day was cloudy and breezy with a beautiful array of clouds but no rain. It was cloudy and humid with a high of 73°. Light jacket weather for me, everyone else is happy in their shirt sleeves/shorts. We took the ferry to town for oats and a few other groceries for the next couple of days. We briefly looked at Standard Baking for bread but the line was too long. We will try tomorrow earlier :) We had a lovely walk through the inner island on the different dirt roads with very little traffic of any sort. It was a meandering kind of walk where we paused for birds at every new marsh, bog, tree, or other spot of beauty they were there to appreciate. We ended the day by walking to town to get dinner at Greeks of Peaks food truck with semi-permanent parking and picnic tables at the American Legion. We took a new route home on small curvy dirt roads never knowing if we were on a dead end or not. We have yet to try the various trails as a means of transportation routes but maybe that will be next. Here's a link to a map of the trails on land owned by the Peaks Island Land Trust. The only problem with the map is that it doesn't have all the street names and you kind of need to know the streets to get to the trails. Nevertheless, it's basically gold because now we know what is a private trail to someone's house and a public trail.

I grew up with these single-petaled red roses. It was the root stalk for grafted fancier roses and a hard winter would reduce them to their root stalk. They were always my favorites.

An island with a lighthouse
This little island is Ram Island and it is to the left of Cushing Island (which you can't see here). The lighthouse is not actually on the island it is on a ridge of rocks behind it. In the foreground, that plant leaning out is a wild carrot. This is also right out our front door.
