ME II: muggy

Today was a muggy day with clouds and sun to warm up our damp environment. We have our little ritual walks and early we go each day to the community garden on our street and then to the park. On our way, we got a treat in that we got to see the drawbridge up! This is super exciting because it's a major highway to South Portland that you would never guess is a drawbridge. We stayed up a bit late last night working and so we are going to try to hit the hay early. On the way to the Co-op, for a few things, the sidewalks were full of people going to the Cross Insurance Arena formerly the Cumberland County Civic Center to see a rock concert. (I wish private companies didn't have to take over everything with their branding but that's for another day.) On the way back to avoid people we walked up Congress St. which is the main drag and is usually full of people but in comparison it was empty. Work is intense as we are hatching an updated app on September 1 so it is really GO TIME. In the interests of sleep, I'm keeping this short.

This is looking down Clark Street one of the streets that we look on just before the community garden. It's so magical to see this highway that is huge and has a pedestrian bridge and highways going in both directions just fold up and let a giant ship through. The port of Portland Maine is the second largest seaport in New England.

Sign raising money to build a new fence for a park
Lincoln Park is right downtown and a block from the Co-op. It's one of our favorites. Pretty nice fence to last 150 years, part of it failed last winter. This fence was put here in 1872!!

Here is a picture of the park, it has big trees and a lovely fountain in the middle with benches all around. On the far side is a giant freeway of a street called Franklin and on that side, the old sidewalks go to the fence and there is a plack that explains that part of the park was taken to make this terrible monstrosity of a highway through town and they left the sidewalks to remember. That is also so Maine.

Another treat for walking home on Congress at dusk was that we got a beautiful backdrop to the City Hall building.
