Blueberries and beauty

Many of you know that I love blueberries. It turns out that there are several different kinds of blueberries worldwide (kind of like oysters!). Of course in Maine, there are the Wild Blueberries that cover the hillsides those are Vaccinium angustifolium. In Washington state, there is the Cascade Bilberry Vaccinium deliciousum. In Colorado, high up in the mountains there is Vaccinium myrillus, which is the same as the Swedish low bilberry. Vaccinium myrillus covers an estimated 17% of Sweden! The East Coast Highbush Blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum, has a southern variety (that needs fewer chill hours) and a northern variety. They also come in many different colors, especially Vaccinium myrtillus. This isn't even getting into what are known as Huckleberries. Sometimes they are in Vaccinium and sometimes they are in Gaylussacia or others. Usually, they are related to blueberries in terms of flavor.

The following images are from the past month with a whirlwind of different things going on. One thing to note is that it is raining in California which it feels like it never does anymore. It's worth celebrating. Let us do a happy rain dance.
