My mind is pretty taken up with work and trying to think about all the little details going on with creating a new store. I'm also with so much going on in the news, but also on my LinkedIn feed and other social media, about the anti-immigrant legal structure that is falling into place.

I'm putting the politics up front tonight.

NPR recently wrote about revoking citizenship for naturalized American citizens. Deportation removes noncitizens. Denaturalization strips citizenship, even when lawfully granted. These are people who stood in line. Took the oath. Paid the fees. Passed the test. People who were, until now, every bit as American as anyone else.

It is frightening that they are stepping up, seeking any tiny violation. These actions create fear for even more people and especially people with brown skin. The laws work to define in more detail who is an American and who isn't. This is a tactic also used by the Nazi regime to define who was a citizen and who wasn't. Laying the groundwork to dehumanize and to "other" people. Below is an 8-minute video of Tad Stoermer, a historian who studies authoritarian regimes and resistance to them.
