Vole crossing

Today, we went out for an early walk and charged the car, as we thought we were going to listen to an artist talk about their work in relation to the Pacific Ocean. We went to the Farmer's Market for a few things, and by about 11 a.m., it was clear we needed to go home and stay there. There were far too many people in these parts. Long lines of traffic snaked everywhere. Later, we went on a couple of other little walks, and on one of them, we saw a California vole (Microtus californicus) crossing the trail, carrying a baby vole in its mouth! Oh, the things you can see with binoculars.

We had a quiet day, and tomorrow is a new day.

We've been talking about all the different oaks and which ones are deciduous and which aren't. It turns out that the Black Oak is deciduous, and it is related to the wonderful Red Oak of Maine!
