Tonight we got out late for our evening walk and came home with the bats and the dwindling light. As we were coming over the last hill, a bounding Gray fox left us speechless. Then, in the parking lot, there was a Great horned owl and a Barn Owl. Then, driving out of the park, we saw a Mountain Lion where the deer usually hang out.

Work this week has been intense, and this makes it all worth it. Total magic.

The (very) wild world around us: Mountain lions are native to here and the wider West Marin area. They serve an important role in managing deer populations. Generally, they are not seen because they are nocturnal.

After about 8 pm, it's pretty quiet: bats, cats, owls, a fox, and us (and the Inverness 68 bus).
