Good Day
Today was a beautiful sunny day. I slept and was feeling good. Karl and Rebecca came up for lunch at the Station House. We had a nice walk with them in the forest. Otherwise, we did errands and made dinner.
The wild world around us: Here, the skunk is the striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis). It's cat-sized and can spray its scent up to 15 feet away. They weigh 4 to 10 pounds and are 18 to 32 inches long. That is quite a large difference in size! They have a black coat with two stripes running down from the head. They are most active at night, at dawn, and at dusk. They eat insects, grubs, mice, eggs, fruits, and small snakes. There are five main recognized living species of skunks. They include the Striped Skunk and the Western Spotted Skunk (Spilogale gracilis), Eastern Spotted Skunk (Spilogale putorius), Hooded Skunk (Mephitis macroura), and the American Hog-Nosed Skunk (Conepatus leuconotus).
