Maine Event: Day 16

Today we are getting the tail end of Ida, low 70°s. After work we took the ferry to Peak's island went for a nice walk on the rocky coastline and when it started raining went back to an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven and had pizza and mango sorbet. The crust was super thin and very good. We sat at picnic tables with raindrops filtered by the tree coverage. We then took the ferry back voting to stay outside in the rain getting soaked. It looks like the rain will continue until mid-morning tomorrow and we will get an inch or two. The rain is cold but the wind is warm. We had such a wonderful time and it is so cool to have an after-work adventure. It somehow makes the day longer.
This is a highly walkable city/town and yet not very many people walk. I found this list from 2015 about how many households in cities have no vehicles, check it out it is interesting. Unfortunately, they only included cities with at least 100,000 people so Portland, Maine isn't listed. These stats show that Portland, ME has 2 cars per household! I recognize a place with winter is different but I've been asking neighbors how they get groceries in winter and everyone so far has said "walk" - so why two cars. Some of the infrastructure bill that recently passed is going to add more refuel stations for electric cars. I have been seeing electric cars here not as many as SF, and no Teslas (actually Matt has seen 2). 
I'm really looking forward to the long weekend. 

The ferry to Peaks Island is a car ferry I've only been on a people ferry- so that is cool! The ferry here seems less stinky than the ones that cross the Bay. Peaks Island has many people zipping around in electric golf carts. 

Just sayin' Bucko is a great name for a boat if you are writing fiction.
