Maine Event: Day 48

Today was a quiet little day that was a little rainy and gray outside. We slept in and cleaned the house and walked around the neighborhood now and then to punctuate our efforts. Then we invited Rosemary over and made a nice dinner. The days are getting shorter and we have transitioned to our puffer jackets. 

I think I've mentioned before that I miss my kitchen. To be more specific I really miss my iron pots and pans. We made braised lemon chicken tonight and to do that I bought a pan at the department store. Cooking ordinary everyday things in a thin-bottomed stainless steel skillet just doesn't work well (think scrambled eggs or sauteed vegetables). I now understand why people choose nonstick garbage pots and pans because they were using stainless steel skillets which are sticky. Nothing like a well-loved iron pan to cook almost anything in. 

In other news, I heard that PG&E is moving to Oakland from SF. What this really means is that after 15 years the Falcon Cam will go dark.

Milkweed going to seed. The pods are super cool and the "cotton" is also magical. If I were a butterfly I'd like this plant also.

We decided to buy the pan to make the lemon chicken, both because it is delicious but also Matt has to submit a recipe to work and they wanted a picture also. There is no source of Meyer lemons here so we used regular (only less). It turned out delicious. We served it with farro, shallot, mushroom, parsley side dish, and sauteed kale with daikon radish.

After dinner, we walked to a new community garden that is slated to become condos. This blur effect comes from too low-light conditions for my phone camera.
