Maine Event: Day 60

TGIF!! I'm tired. On the positive side, I heard from our Afghan partner that he and his wife and three kids are still alive although their lives have been stymied and completely shut down. We are working together to translate more health resources into Dari. It is such a relief after this time to find his email in my inbox. We are still working on the app release and are hoping for a Saturday release. This has been one difficult release.

It was a gray gloomy day today and the low temperature overnight is supposed to be 10° cooler. Still, it's October and the "colder" nighttime temperatures are in the 40s. Where I'm from in Colorado it is in the 20s and 30s for nighttime temps. I've always felt the difference between 60 and 50 or 50 and 40 are somewhat similar but the difference between 40 and 30 feels significant. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the cooler nights. The trees are all starting to turn beautiful colors and the Green Ash trees are nearly bare with a golden ring of fallen leaves around their base. 

We walked to the garden early for some plant therapy and a quick walk around the immediate neighborhood at lunch then after work made dinner and it was dark by the time we got out. 

Well, Mr. Pumpkin is the smaller one and he is almost totally golden. The other bigger one in the garden bed was totally green when I shared pictures a couple weeks ago so I didn't even include him in the images. They are ripening so fast they must know the cold is coming.

This beautiful kale plant is still going strong. You can see how heavily it has been harvested lower on the plant all the way to the base. Plants are so amazing.

This beautiful Virginia Creeper is found covering a parking lot. Our first encounter was with my dear friend Paula at Owl's Head which is up near Rockland. There are many wonderful things about Maine but being able to connect with my friends here and make new friends is the absolute best part. Likewise what I miss about California the most is my community.

This is a make-shift outdoor classroom in the school directly across from our house. I don't know about you but this would have been a dream set up when I was a kid. Outdoors was/is always better.
