Maine Event: Day 68

Woohoo! We had our first day in the 30s. Our high today was 54° and our low was 39°. We had a pretty mellow day doing errands and stuff. I went to the farmers market early and it was cold enough my hands were stiff and dry and... well, cold. It made handling cash difficult. The farmers made the comment that this was the first day of the stiff and dry hands. I left the house with just a sweater and scarf and of course my beret and while it was cold there wasn't much wind so I didn't turn back for my coat. The market was lovely as usual, with quite a bounty. As it is our last week there was no need for much groceries. I got some salad mix, a few tomatoes, peppers, green onions, chives, and green onions. The peppers were the only impulse buy but it is ok as we eat them like candy. I also went to a store to get leg warmers as most of my pants are summer pants and they both look geeky with shoes as well as show off my socks and let my ankles get cold. My solution to this is to wear leg warmers over my summer jeans. 

In one week we will no longer be here. Boohoo that is no good and so good all at the same time. That meant we spent the day doing laundry and cleaning and planning things out so we don't leave much food behind. 

In the evening we went out to dinner with Rosemary at a Japanese place and ate hot ramen and had good beer in the cold night air. Yes, you heard that right I finally found a good beer. It is by Foundation Brewery and is called Epiphany. It is citrusy which is one quality I like in West Coast beers. It was a cloudy one with not quite enough bitterness for me. Probably the best beer we have had here by my standards. We also like Lunch by Maine Beer Company. That said, I'm not much of a beer drinker. I really do like the idea that it is in the fermentation family though. 

The whole Alec Baldwin thing has had me flabbergasted. Everything about cinematography is fake, so why! How could there be real bullets in the gun?!!? This article is a pretty good explainer if you are wondering the same thing. Why Hollywood is Reluctant to Stop Using Real Guns as Props.

My friend Paula loaned me the book "Them Times" by David Weale and I've been reading it to Matt as a bedtime story. It has been a delight and we finished it last night. The end of the bedtime story is upon us. I highly recommend this book for bedtime reading. The stories are short 1-2 pages written in a spoken style and excellent to read aloud before bed.

Happy end of the day after Miso Ramen from Mami. Mami was a food truck that turned into a brick-&-mortar site. They have plentiful outdoor seating right downtown on the cobblestoned old area and a smallish indoor spot. Excellent food.
