Maine Event: Day 75

It was a long day of travel. We took a cab to the transportation hub in Portland at 6:45 and took a Concord Coach (bus) to Boston where we caught the Acela (amtrak) to NY Penn Station, then we took the subway (which was insanely crowded), and then walked the short distance to our hotel. The room wasn't quite ready so we had a nice walk in Washington Square Park and sat on a bench and watched the people, birds, squirrels, and identified as many trees as possible. Half an hour later we were let into our room which is on the 8th floor and has a wonderful feel and the best bathroom of any hotel ever! It's probably 12x6 feet and is just spectacular. Plus we have a view of the mews (which are now faculty NYU housing) which at least one of them has a beautiful rooftop garden.

We have an early day tomorrow and need to catch either the subway at 6 am or a cab at 6:30. The trouble is the street the hotel is on is shut down for a Halloween parade. So either way, we are getting our luggage back to the subway entrance, it might be easier just to take the subway.

New York is significantly more crowded than when we came through in August. Perhaps it is because it is Halloween and there are festivities everywhere. It also feels like there are tourists. There is German and French being spoken in the hallways waiting for the elevator as we sneak behind to take the stairs.

We arrived in a storm and left in a storm. It was really raining in Portland when we left and it rained all the way down to almost New York. The weather app seems to think it will start here at about 9 pm.

Welcome to New York

New York city skyline with the Brooklyn Bridge

Killing a little time in the park as our room got ready. It was cool here unlike when we usually visit. But it felt warm after Portland. On average about 10-15° warmer in NYC. There were really a lot of people. It was difficult to walk on the sidewalks.

Parklet dining at the Washington Square Hotel restaurant. If you stay here ask when you book online request "if possible to have a room on one of the upper floors". Any time they ask for a comment add that.

The story is winding down. Tomorrow we will be home and that will be the last contiguous post. This trip known as the Maine Event has been a fun exploration of what it means to write every day and document with images. I understand some days were tiresome and towards the end, it felt a little boring to me. It is a good reminder that one can learn to see every day. I have done as I intended and this is the penultimate post which is a little sad.

Sending you all one oodle of love,

Tawnia
