ME II: the demise of mercy
We stay in the West End of the peninsula while the downtown and most of the action is further East. Most days we walk down Spring or one of the nearby streets to get supplies, take the ferry, go to the post office, and so on. On that walk used to be a large hospital called Mercy Hospital. It is now in the process of being demolished. I kept wondering what they were going to do with only Maine Medical which is the other hospital. These two hospitals are the main hospitals for the whole state for anything serious. It didn't seem like a reduction to only one would work. Well, in fact, they just moved down to nearby the Fore River and it turns out we walked past it last year and they had partially moved already. The project of creating that space started in 2020. Anyway, the building is ghostly and there is a lot of noise and dust.

We had a very chill day after working most of Saturday which included a wonderful tree identification and bird-watching adventure in the West End Cemetary where we once early one morning saw a fox. We also went on several walks and went to the Co-op to see if we could score some good quality whole grain bread flour. No dice. Will need to look somewhere else or see if my usual source will ship to a post office.

Have a splendid evening,
Sending love, Tawnia
