ME III: day of the warbler

Today was another quiet day. We have mostly recovered from the vaccines but our energy isn't quite back to it's usual. There is also moderately bad air here as smoke from Canadian wildfires has invaded. It means we have mostly stayed inside. We got into some good conversations that we have been meaning to have. Matt managed to accomplish some tasks on the Hesperian website.

I've been reading off and on again about the concept of the 15-minute city and feel like there is such huge potential for places to adapt to actually work for people instead of for cars. Suburbs should evolve and change zoning to make this happen and dense urban places could be hugely improved by eliminating cars in the downtown area. More on this as my thinking evolves.

The only thing of note is we went to the Western Cemetery in the morning to birdwatch and saw several different kinds of warblers. There are so many warblers here and so many new to us varieties. It was so fun to try to see them and identify them.

We ended the day making a nice dinner and heating our wee kitchen intolerably. The cold temps have warmed up again and it was 76° today for the high. Tuesday is predicted to be in the low 80s. It feels so strange to have cold weather and then it warms up. Not so unusual for the end of September or early October in these parts but one minute you think you are done with sandals and the next you can't live without them.

Several kinds of warblers where we didn't quite nail down the identification - need to read up a bit (Pine Warbler, female Common yellowthroat, other?). 14 species none the less:
