Day 9: ME IV
Today was a busy work day so there are few photos as I was in all day!

Soup & Sermon
Salmon. Wild salmon is in massive decline. Farmed salmon is terrible for the environment. Many other animals and fish are dependent on wild salmon so we should protect it as if it is part of us. We are all connected. Farmed salmon destroys the health of wild salmon by polluting the waters and spreading serious fatal diseases.
Watch:
Salmon Confidential. (2013). Documentary by Twyla Roscovich. A Canadian government coverup about the damage farmed salmon farming on the native salmon in BC. Free on Vimeo here is the link.
The movement towards good news:
Good news because we are trying and learning and admitting to our mistakes Klamath River Dam Removal Project
Skip the comments, but this is a pretty dry-eyed and transparent explanation of what is currently happening with this project. Native Americans have pushed for the dam removals for decades. The power company was not maintaining the dams any longer, and they weren't being used. It was time to free the river, and we can all pray the fish come back.
Coho is returning to the rivers in Marin, which is encouraging. There has been much improvement after fixing some of the rivers so they don't have blocks, and working to clean them up from pollution. This story about the San Geronimo golf course conversion to Public Land Trust is wonderful and includes a sentence or two about rehabilitating the waterway for the salmon. If we want to eat salmon we must fight to protect its habitat. So many other species are dependent on salmon, who don’t have a voice in this process.
