We got up early and got an early start on our vacation to Acadia. We had a pit stop in Rockland to see our dear friend Paula. Rock City Coffee, a worker-owned cafe, provided a cappuccino and enough juice to get us to Mt. Desert Island. We are staying in Salt Cottages on the edge of Bar Harbor. They are about as cute as can be in a kind of old school vacation style. We checked in and then dashed off for our first walk of the day around Jordan Pond as the day wound to an end.
Good Morning PortlandLocal Portland politics use very handmade signs. You know the first time we came to Maine it was 2015 and everywhere there were Trump signs. It was the first time I really understood he might win. There are still a few this year driving up the coast but there are far more Harris Walz signs. Even out in rural areas! Fingers crossed. Driving driving. So many miles of amazing trees. It feels like the sun has come to Earth and lit it up. Completely enchanting. While there were lots of people there were moments of quietness for photos. The second half of the trail were these planksWider areas for passing so there was much retreat and navigation conversations with people passing. FUN! Hmm, maybe Caloplaca feracissima or something else. Still lost in lichen learningThe end of a lovely day. Great to have a nice walk after a day of driving.
