Maine Event: Day 45

Today I headed out early to the fish store I had discovered and it was a magical way to start the day. So much good quality fish and shellfish. I opted for lobster which was $10/lb since we hadn't gone to any of the restaurants to eat lobster. Then I swung by the bakery (the one I had scoped out all the way from California called Standard Baking) and got some bread and a chocolate "cork" which is a tiny cake roughly two inches wide and three inches tall  - dense chocolate. On the way back home I walked through downtown and on Free Street and there is a vintage office supply and stationery store called Joe Wigon. It is the kind of store where you walk in and ask for what you want and they get it. It has been several generations of family members who have run it now it is the daughter of Joe Wigon and her son. I have heard that they don't use a cash register but write everything up by hand. I didn't have time to go in, nor need, but I did see who I took to be the daughter of Joe Wigon, who is of a certain age, and who I took to be her son working in the shop. I was home by 8:45. It turned into an even more wonderful day because the IT / Web Admin person I've been trying to hire finally said yes! 

Then we had dinner of lobster and roasted vegetables and a salad. It was divine eating although supremely messy. I do think I prefer Dungeness crab but this was fun and locally available. 

It was brisk here with the kind of feeling of the cold pecking at your cheeks but your core is warm with a sweater/jacket on. Regular people of Maine are now wearing jackets and we had a low of 46° and a high of 59° F. If you are cold, go for a walk, you'll warm right up.

I can hardly believe it is October already which is the month we will be heading back to the West Coast. So much that we still want to do! I'm not ready, I'm not ready. (And I want to go home so badly!)

These are the lobster prices. Next time we come here I hope to go home with fish which seemed reasonably priced.

I'm excited to try some east coast oysters from here. Too many choices how will we decide?

Joe Wigon office supplies on 18 Free Street. Very cool shop and building. Office supplies are a little like a candy shop for me.

Clouds gave way to blue skies and sunshine. The clouds have really been putting on a show.

It's still a flag town. We did hear why so many rainbow flags are everywhere. A few people had them up and they kept getting stolen so the whole city put them up in protest. Outside of the rainbow flags, there are just a lot of flags here.

On several houses, the Halloween decorations are already going up on September 30. Steps are covered with pumpkins and corn and scarecrows and cobwebs and fake giant candy corn. It feels like folks here might go all out for holidays. I love this little warty fellow. He is about 4 or 5 inches across.
