ME II: Rainy night

It was a beautiful day. Those that run warmer than me were happy in short sleeves while I was happy in a light jacket and a hat. Not unlike what I might wear in summer in the Bay Area. It's in the low 60s now with 79% humidity and the dew point is at 57° in the range of the goldilocks dew point (and it is raining with light winds). These three numbers make more of a difference to look at together. For years Matt and I have talked about the fact that the temperature is lying. The same temperature on different days is completely different and then once you start cavorting on the East Coast those numbers really say something different. Here it could say it is 70° and one day you'll be wet with sweat and another and you are totally comfortable. Here is an article that starts getting at something beyond the temperature or temperature and humidity. Even so, I think there is still something missing, basically, human perception and the measurements available do not match up.

I recently got a new cookbook called Summer Kitchens by Olia Hercules who is Ukrainian and these are recipies from all over Ukraine. I'm super excited and there is a whole section on fermenting and preserving. She has also been on the forefront of raising awareness, and money. Here is an article from the Guardian about her work.

Finally, they seem to think that crashing a spaceship into a giant rock might have changed its course. There is still much to learn but from first glance it made a difference. Here is more about that. I personally worry about unintended consequences, I mean it was a big rock orbiting way out there minding its own business... who are we to rock its boat?
