ME II: long day
Whew! Long day but we got a beta version of the FP app out the door. The weather is really lovely with the low 42° and the high 69°. It was crisp and cool but the sun was warm. We had big plans to go to the Farmers' Market early for oysters but got waylaid by work. Maybe Saturday early in the rain. We expect a big storm on Friday and Saturday that will potentially cause flooding in some places. Sunday we are planning to take the train up to Brunswick and my dear friend Paula will drive down so we can spend the day together at a place halfway between the two of us. I'm super excited to take the train and see my friend who I've known for 17 years! Could that be possible?
A couple of local bragging points: First, a local teacher has been named the Maine Teacher of the Year. One of his projects is working on a Wabanaki studies curriculum! Second, Five of the top 10 safest cities are located in New England. And here is the data if you are interested in seeing how they measure "safest" (it's at the bottom).
Finally, last night I talked about electric cars and wishing there were better-designed cities and better public transit. Then this article is about a Rural Minnesota pilot using autonomous on-demand transit! When I was in school the transportation professor was really into autonomous vehicles and predicted that the role of autonomous cars would actually be on-demand, small (6-personish) options to go the last mile and take people more or less right where they want to go.
