ME III: the beauty of Maine

Today was pretty sunny with a high of 75° and a low of 53°. It feels hot after our temps in the 30s and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer and then it will get colder again. Next Thursday is supposed to have a low of 29°!!! So exciting. Today we had busy work days and then opted to go catch a ferry and go to the island. This weekend we will be working so it seemed like a good window to take off and have some fun. The ride is always wonderful and the sunset is lovely. Then we had dinner at the Cockeyed Gull, the only real restaurant on Peaks. It is Korean-ish food, with relatively good food.

It's still shocking that Maine has made international news twice in the same week first for Poland Springs and the water scandal and then the mass shooting. It is just too much-taking place up close against the backdrop of all the turmoil across the world. On a positive note a politician representing Lewiston who has always been pro-gun and anti-regulation has apologized and this even has changed his mind. Too bad this is what it took.

I was also reading that Maine used to make 90% of all toothpicks made in the US. A total of 7 billion a year! Now toothpicks are not made in the US at all. As a consolation prize 90% of lobsters do come from Maine. 40 million pounds annually!
