Skunk

Last night, late, we had a visit from a skunk who left an eye-burning smell in the neighborhood. We slept with the windows and door shut, and when we awoke, it was gone. Today was chilly and a little cloudy. Pretty SF-style wind for most of the day. Around noon, I gave up and moved inside because it's no good to sit outside and work on a computer while being cold. We both started early and finished late, so we got Middle Eastern takeout.

Unrelated, we regularly see a large dark hawk that we can't quite identify. Most mornings and mostly in the same place. It feels like a Red-tail but with wider wings. This even led me to find research on a Black Hawk x with a Red-shouldered Hawk in the Santa Rosa area. Black Hawks don't live around here, but a female was seen and banded, and then a few years later was seen nesting with a Red-Shouldered.

Here is another hopeful story. This one is about renewable energy working for an island. All the islands off Maine should take notice!
