East Bay

We got up early and drove over to Oakland for a 3-hour board meeting. Picked up lunch and met up with family for a sweet get-together. We got home around 4pm, pretty wiped out as we didn't get enough sleep. Traffic is bad because there are Super Bowl events all over the Bay Area, with an estimated 90,000 extra people. Downtown SF is shut down around the Moscone Center through Feb 11th. Good time to avoid driving.

With an unreliable and unstable federal government, we are presented with an opportunity to think deeply about systems and what to work towards. In many instances, going back to the status quo of what was before the Trump administration isn't a great option either. So we are left with some thoughtful problems: how to create better systems that are state, region, or community-based. For example, the current administration has cut research across CDC, NIOSH, and NIH. Some good conversations are starting on how we can create state or regional research hubs with different mechanisms for funding. How can we be more resilient in this moment for a better future?
