Owls, owls everywhere

Today we went on a nice alternative walk that is not on the popular main trails of Bear Valley. We watched birds and just spent time outside. We were home by 10 am, with cars arriving in a steady stream and the parking lot filling up. We spent the day at home doing little things and sitting on the deck until the traffic noise would drive us inside. Then had a nice evening walk when everyone else was leaving. We came back with the bats swirling around our heads. The parking lot at the trailhead had a Great Horned Owl. Then, when we got home, there was a Great Horned Owl in the big trees across the street that by day host Pine Siskins and Pygmy Nuthatches

The wild world around us: About 490 bird species have been observed in the Point Reyes National Seashore, which is about 50% of North America's bird species. This has to do with the fact that we are right where the Southern Oregon and Northern California marine ecological provinces meet. Also, it is on the Pacific Flyway. Here is more about it.
